or Saturday, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The organized tour
includes the Museum,
the Commissioners Courtroom,
the basement area (that housed the holding cells for
the
Sheriff's Department in the early 1900s),
and the outside of the building including the
fossils in the limestone
and John B. Denton's grave.
The entire tour takes about 45 minutes.
Therefore, we do not schedule tours
after 3:30 on Monday through Friday
or after 2:00 on Saturday.
Since the Commissioners Court meets on Tuesdays in
the Courtroom,
tours are not generally scheduled on that day.
You are welcome to visit the Museum at any time,
but if you want a tour, please contact the museum in
advance.

The tours are suitable for teaching about different
aspects of Denton County as well as other artifacts:

including the American Pressed Glass from the

including the Southwest American Indian Pottery
Collection including pottery from the Casa
Grandes area in Mexico, prehistoric pottery from

Pueblo pottery from New Mexico and Arizona, and
pottery from Texas

Weaponry including
weapons similar to those used in historic Denton
County, World War I and World War II, Texas
Rangers, and a section of the Berlin Wall.

including furniture and artifacts from early
Denton County
The tours can be adapted for grades K-12.
Please contact the Education and Tourism Director to
discuss the TEKS that are appropriate for each grade
level. Depending on the grade level, the tours are
appropriate for teaching multicultural, history,
social studies, reading and language, writing, fine
and decorative arts, and some science and
mathematical skills.
The tours are free and open to any group including
public and private schools, senior citizen groups,
day care centers, and other community groups. Each
tour takes about 45 minutes.
Scheduling
Groups are encouraged to schedule ahead of the
requested date. The months of October, November and
early December, March, April, and May are especially
busy, so we encourage you to plan ahead so that we
can schedule the requested time. For example, many
schools now make their requests in September for
much later in the school year.
